One dead, five hospitalized after crash in Dorchester County

DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) – A week and a half after a head-on collision that left six people hospitalized, one person has died.

According to police, the accident occurred on June 17 at approximately 5:45 p.m. Two cars were traveling in opposite directions on Highway 17A, approximately 5 miles south of Summerville.

The first vehicle, a 2020 Toyota sedan, was traveling northbound while a 2010 Jeep SUV was traveling southbound on the highway.

According to police, the Jeep crossed the middle of the road and collided head-on with the Toyota.

There were four people in the Toyota. All were injured and taken to a nearby hospital.

There were two people in the Jeep, both of whom were taken to hospital with injuries. However, the driver of the Jeep has since died.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been disclosed.

This accident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
