Amish child from Lancaster County killed in horse training accident

KINZERS, Pa. (WHTM) – An Amish child from Lancaster County died in a horse training accident Tuesday.

The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office said they were called to Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital at 11:49 a.m. for a death. The Coroner’s Office said a 9-year-old Amish girl was pronounced dead after becoming caught in the reins of her horse, which suddenly spooked while exercising.

The girl was taken to the hospital from her home in Salisbury Township. Despite attempts at resuscitation, she was pronounced dead in the hospital emergency room.

Her body was taken to the Lancaster County Forensic Center for further examination. The medical examiner described the girl’s cause of death as multiple traumatic injuries. The manner of death was ruled an accident.
