Survey: Over 60 percent of Europeans support suspension of free trade with Israel

The poll, conducted by YouGov from June 5 to 10, found broad public support for the idea in all countries surveyed.

Even in Hungary, Israel’s closest European ally, only 39 percent of respondents opposed the suspension of trade with Israel. In France (29 percent), the Netherlands (27 percent) and Belgium (23 percent), the results are even lower.

Israel has ignored a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire and is facing international criticism for its ongoing brutal offensive on Gaza since the Hamas attack on October 7 last year.

Since then, more than 37,600 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, most of them women and children, and nearly 86,100 others injured, according to local health authorities.

More than eight months after the start of the Israeli war, large parts of the Gaza Strip lay in ruins and people were cut off from food, clean water and medicine by a crippling blockade.

Human rights groups warned that thousands of people in the besieged enclave were facing famine amid ongoing devastating Israeli attacks.
