Des Plaines man headbutted woman, held her down and sexually assaulted her: police

COOK COUNTYA Des Plaines man faces felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman on Sunday.

At around 10:30 p.m., Des Plaines police responded to a report of domestic violence at a home in the 900 block of South Sixth Avenue. When officers arrived on the scene, a 43-year-old woman in the front yard claimed Bejnamin Redzic was hitting her and threatening to kill her.

Redzic, who was also outside the house, was taken into custody, police said.

An investigation revealed that earlier that evening, Redzic allegedly entered the bedroom where the woman was in bed, pushed her shoulders down and headbutted her. The woman was able to grab her phone from the nightstand and told him she was going to call 911.

According to police, Redzic then grabbed her phone, threw it away, put his hand around her throat and continued to hold her down. According to police, she managed to push Redzic off of her and ran into her daughter’s room to use her phone. She retrieved the phone and locked herself in the bathroom, where she called 911.

Redzic is said to have stated several times during the incident that he was going to kill her. Police said they would not release any details of the sexual assault out of respect for the victim.

The victim suffered bruises on her neck, arms and chest. She was taken to a local hospital, police said.

Redzic was charged with aggravated sexual assault, aggravated kidnapping, false imprisonment, domestic violence and obstruction of reporting domestic violence.

He is scheduled to attend a detention hearing in Skokie.
