Woman dead after serious head-on collision in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY – Shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday, one person died in an accident in Kansas City.

According to KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartino, a Honda Pilot was traveling east on 43rd Street at a high rate of speed.

As the Honda crossed Virginia Street, the vehicle became airborne. As the Honda landed at the bottom of the hill,from collided head-on with a black Mitsubishi.

After hitting the Mitsubishi, the Honda crashed into two wooden power poles. The second pole was split and bent, but still standing. The Honda then tipped onto its roof. The driver of the Mitsubishi was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver and passenger of the Honda were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Evergy was on the scene because of the power poles. DiMartino said this is the 49th fatality in Kansas City, compared to 39 during the same period last year. The name of the woman who died was not released.
