Warm Wednesday with highs around 100°!

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Montgomery officially recorded a high of 101 degrees on Tuesday! Other highs in the area were above 90 degrees and often above triple-digit heat…so are we repeating the whole thing for your Wednesday? The answer for many is yes, but we expect some showers and thunderstorms to form during the hottest part of the day. That might be enough to cool down our cities, but not all of them.

The silver lining is lower humidity. Yes, there is moisture in the atmosphere, but it’s not overwhelming. This means the air can warm effectively, and the heat index/feels like temperature will likely be close to the actual air temperature, which, while still hot, isn’t quite *as* dangerous from a heat stroke perspective.

More heat is expected over the next few weeks. Yes, that’s to be expected here in Alabama as June turns into July, but it’s always a good reminder to think about the heat before heading outside!

The available data indicate a constant, long period of daily temperatures of 34 to 37 degrees Celsius, with humidity also soon beginning to rise.

In the coming weeks, common sense precautions against the heat are needed: drink plenty of water before, during and after outdoor activities, take more breaks than usual and try to do your work early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

There will be scattered showers and thunderstorms each afternoon. No, it won’t rain all day and it won’t rain everywhere, but we will at least have a few of those precious, cooling showers and thunderstorms moving through the state each afternoon. That’s a good thing – we need the rain!

The coming weekend looks – you guessed it – hot and humid, with a few isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Highs on Saturday and Sunday are likely to be in the high 30s, with a mix of sun and clouds. Don’t cancel your outdoor plans, but be sure to have a rainy plan B just in case!
