The Atlanta Braves are rained out and get a doubleheader with the Cardinals on Wednesday

The Atlanta Braves were scheduled to face the St. Louis Cardinals in the second game of a three-game series. However, just before the game began, the Cardinals announced that the game would not start on time. After more than an hour and a half without an update, St. Louis announced the game was postponed.

The Braves already have a make-up game scheduled this week, as the team travels to Chicago for a game immediately following the series finale with the Cardinals. Unfortunately, with this rain, the situation is even worse.

The Braves are currently in the middle of a three-city, seven-game road trip. After winning two of three games in the series against the Yankees, the Braves lost Game 1 to the Cardinals.

Immediately after calling for rain, the Cardinals announced that Wednesday would feature a doubleheader, with Game 1 starting at 1:45 p.m. EST and Game 2 starting at 7:45 p.m. EST.

The Braves announced that Tuesday’s scheduled starter, Reynaldo Lopez, would start Game 1, while Bryce Elder would start Game 2. Elder will be recalled from Gwinnett and will be the club’s 27th man.

Justin Toscano of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the Braves had actually planned to push Chris Sale back from his scheduled start Wednesday to give him extra rest, and the rain now means the club won’t have to pick a reliever to roster Elder on the list.

Unfortunately, the rain also means the Braves will now play three games in 27 hours. After completing the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader, Atlanta will fly to Chicago to face the White Sox at 4:10 p.m. EST to make up the rained-out game on April 3 to conclude the road trip.

Immediately following this game, the Braves will return to face the Pirates at home in Atlanta in a three-game series beginning Friday.

With the day off on July 1 and the Braves calling on Bryce Elder, the rotation won’t be put in a bind once it returns to the top, but so will the pressure the bullpen could face with back-to-back games. in such a short period of time. because a possible short bench could cause problems for the team in the coming days.
