Due to the strong storm potential, a weather warning was issued by the weather authority for Wednesday, June 26th.

ROANOKE, Virginia. – Wednesday is a weather warning day, mainly due to the risk of strong storms in the late afternoon and evening.

According to NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center, there is a Level 2 risk for severe storms for the western half of our region, indicating the potential is scattered.

A level 2 storm warning was issued for parts of the region on Wednesday evening.

The greatest danger with stronger storms is the potential for localized storm damage. One or two storms may produce hail, especially north of the Roanoke Valley.

According to the Future Tracker, storms will form after 2 or 3 p.m. They will occur sporadically into the evening.

Isolated thunderstorms are possible after 2 or 3 p.m.

Even at dinnertime and in the hours just before sunset, most of our storms will occur near and west of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

There will be isolated heavy storms until Wednesday evening.

Later in the evening they will eventually jump east before largely leaving the area by midnight.

Most of the storms will pass east of the Roanoke Valley by midnight.

This warning day has two sides, as we also have to expect extreme heat. In areas like Lynchburg and the Southside, the heat index will approach triple digits on Wednesday afternoon and evening.
