Statesboro boy dies from accident injuries

A 5-year-old boy has died after being seriously injured in a car crash Monday morning. His mother, Michelle Lynn Lewis, 25, was killed in the crash.
Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch confirmed Wednesday that Ricky Lewis was pronounced dead shortly after midnight Wednesday morning at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah.
His sister, 8-year-old Hailey Lewis, survived the accident with minor injuries, according to Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class Tyler Rickman.
Michelle Lynn Lewis was driving on Veteran’s Memorial Parkway between Fair Road and Brannen Street around 8:26 a.m. Monday when her car left the road, hit a median and then went into a ditch on an emergency access ramp.
Her car then became airborne and rolled several times, ejecting her, he said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident is still under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol. There is no information on what caused the driver to leave the road.
