The Sheriff’s Department began investigating on Monday after an abandoned vehicle was found on the road near Mile 14.

Initially it was assumed that the vehicle might have been stolen.

“The area was searched by patrol officers and the PCSD air unit. However, due to darkness and extreme terrain, the search was postponed until the following morning,” the sheriff’s office said.

The next morning the search continued and Ponsford’s body was discovered.

Ponsford was last seen on June 14 in Killeen, Texas.

Details of Ponsford’s death have not been released. More details are expected to be released after the autopsy.

The investigation into Ponsford’s death is ongoing.
