Houston, we have the Suns picks

“It was the night before the conscription and throughout the house,

No creature moved except… the Brooklyn nets. And their Phoenix Suns ties.

Yes, the day before the 2024 NBA draft and the roster movement has begun. And while none of them directly affect the Suns, the trades are tied to Phoenix and the Kevin Durant trade in 2023. The Brooklyn Nets traded former Sun Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks, and he will join his fellow NCAA championship winner. teammates Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and Donte DiVincenzo.

This is a nice move for Brooklyn as they start to really embrace their post-Durant/Irivng/Harden rebuild. The ransom for Bridges? Four unprotected first-round picks (2025, 2027, 2029, 2031), a swap of unprotected first-round picks in 2028, and a second-round pick in 2025. Whoa. Think about it for Mikal. First, he was traded for Kevin Durant. Then he was traded for five picks and a trade.

Good for Mikal. We will always support him. But ultimately it has nothing to do with Phoneix. What does is what the Nets did next.

Brooklyn, after receiving all those picks from the Knicks, engaged in a trade with the Houston Rockets. The two teams did not trade any players, but rather picks. The Suns’ future picks.

Of course, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski has his two thoughts on the trade, adding to the mix that Durant — who he believes the Rockets are interested in — could be gotten by the Suns for the picks the organization gave up for the acquire.

That won’t happen, at least this summer. The Suns are determined to return with their Big Three intact for another season. But now Houston has at least two of the Suns’ picks, plus the best of a three-way pick between them, Phoenix and the Mavericks in 2029.

Looking at the Suns’ draft capital moving forward, here’s where we stand:

I know you see the same thing I do: the Suns have choices, but they don’t control them going forward. The 2025 draft, which looks talented, has no picks for the Suns. This is why tomorrow is interesting for Phoenix. Do they trade up (or trade down) with the goal of getting back into the draft next year? Are they still disinterested in the project?

We will know tomorrow…
