Mother of slain 3-year-old calls for violence to stop

Buffalo, New York (WBEN) – Shakenya Griffin, mother of Ramone Carter, the 3-year-old boy who was shot while playing outside with his 7-year-old sister on Domedion Avenue Friday, is calling for action to stop the violence that continues to occur in the streets of Buffalo.

“It’s really too much. The violence really needs to stop here, it really needs to,” Griffin told reporters Tuesday. “I always wanted to have a son, I finally had a son. Now I no longer have a son. »

With his heart still extremely heavy after the devastating actions that took place Friday night during a family gathering, Griffin said his only son was a beacon of light.

“He was a sweet kid, always smiling. He loved playing on his bike, he was a Buffalo Bills fan, he loved Josh Allen. He loved dancing, he loved his brothers and sisters,” she said.

Plenty of support surrounded the family in the days after the shooting, including members of the group Griffin is a part of, Buffalo’s Most Precious Parents. MVP is an organized body of concerned citizens, parents and organizations joining together to solve the issues affecting Buffalo and to make the city a better, safer place to live.

Griffin acknowledged the support she has received from groups like Buffalo FATHERS, Buffalo Peacemakers, as well as MVP. She also appreciates Bruce Warrick of Trust God Ministries, who baptized community members on Domedion Avenue on Saturday.

“The violence has to stop, it’s ridiculous and I hear it every day, people are getting shot. It just has to stop, period,” Griffin said. “I never thought I would have to go through this myself. I miss my son. I really miss him. It’s just too much for me.”

Ramone Carter’s funeral will be held this Friday at the Greater Royal Worship Center on Clinton Street in the City of Buffalo.
