Heat warning for Hong Kong residents: Temperatures could rise above 35 degrees Celsius

Hong Kong issued a “very hot weather warning” on Wednesday as parts of the New Territories were expected to experience temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius (95 Fahrenheit) this week.

The Weather The meteorologist issued the warning at 6:45 a.m., citing the effects of persistent heat and predicting that the mercury would reach temperatures of 34 degrees or more during the day.

“(It will be) very hot during the day with highs of around 34 degrees in urban areas and a few degrees higher in the New Territories,” said a spokesman for the Hong Kong Observatory.

The observatory added that a subtropical ridge is bringing fair weather to southeast China, with sunny spells and some rain showers expected in the city on Wednesday.

The weather will remain persistently hot over the next few days, with further showers over the weekend and early next week.

At 8am, the thermometer at the observatory’s headquarters in Tsim Sha Tsui rose to 29 degrees. Yuen Long Park recorded the highest temperature at 31 degrees, while seven other locations in the city, including Sai Kung and Happy Valley, reached as high as 30 degrees.

The meteorologist urged residents to regularly replenish their water supplies during indoor and outdoor activities, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, apply sunscreen and wear light clothing if possible.
