Man from northwest Chicago suburb charged with assault, tying up and sexually abusing woman

DES PLAINES, Ill. (CBS) – A Des Plaines man was charged Tuesday with sexual assault, kidnapping and other crimes following an incident at his home last weekend.

Police were called to the home of 49-year-old Bejnamin Redzic on Sixth Avenue in Des Plaines around 10:30 p.m. Sunday for a report of domestic violence.

They found a 43-year-old woman in the front yard who said Redzic had beaten her and said he was going to kill her, police said.

Des Plaines police investigators learned that Redzic had entered a bedroom where the woman was lying in bed earlier that evening, pushed her shoulders down and punched her in the forehead, police reported.

The woman grabbed her phone from the nightstand and warned Redzic that she was going to call 911, police said. Redzic grabbed the phone and threw it away. He put his hand around the woman’s neck and held her by the shoulders, police said.

The woman pushed Redzic away and ran into her daughter’s room to make a phone call, police reported. She locked herself in the bathroom and called 911, police reported.

Redzic repeatedly said he would kill the woman while committing these acts, as well as the acts related to the sexual assault he was accused of. Out of respect for the victim, the police refused to release details of the alleged sexual assault.

The police did not provide any further information about the relationship between Redzic and the woman.

Redzic was charged Monday with aggravated sexual assault, aggravated kidnapping and false imprisonment and domestic violence. He was scheduled to appear for a detention hearing at the Skokie courthouse.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital with bruises on her neck, arms and chest.
