“It has to stop!” Mother of 3-year-old Buffalo killed by stray bullet pleads for end to violence

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The mother of a three-year-old homicide victim is speaking out, calling on the community to do more to end the violence.

“It’s just too much,” said Shakenya Griffin, whose son Ramone Carter died Friday after being shot while playing with his 7-year-old sister outside the family’s Domedion Avenue home. The girl was injured but survived.

On Tuesday, police and prosecutors announced the arrests of two teenagers, ages 14 and 16, in connection with the shootings of children who authorities said were not their targets.

“The violence needs to stop, it really does,” said Griffin, who spoke with 2 On Your Side before the arrests were announced.

“I always wanted a son. I had my son. Now I don’t have a son anymore. It’s just too much…too much for me…” Griffin said, his voice trailing off as he did so. that she was sitting outside the house. near where the shooting took place.

Griffin spoke of Ramone as a boy with a gregarious and engaging personality who loved football and dancing. She also said that he was intelligent to the point that she sometimes wondered if he had been on this earth before.

As innocent a victim as possible.

“This violence must stop,” Griffin said. “It’s ridiculous. I hear about people getting shot and stuff every day and we just need to stop the rules. I never thought I would go through this myself… My son tells me I really miss him. It’s too much for me.”
