Tyler Bertuzzi should be a target for the Buffalo Sabers

We are less than a week away from NHL free agency. The 2023/2024 season is over, so it’s time to look forward to next year. For the Buffalo Sabres, this will be a critical offseason for general manager Kevyn Adams. Left winger Tyler Bertuzzi is a player the Sabers should target in free agency.

In 80 games played with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season, Bertuzzi scored 21 goals and collected 22 assists for 43 points. He was also a +2. Adams said he wants to add a top-six scorer this offseason and if other options are ruled out, Bertuzzi would be the perfect signing.

Not only does he know how to score, but he is also difficult to face. Courage is something that is lacking in Buffalo. If they can sign Bertuzzi, it will be a huge improvement in guts. In the playoffs with the Maple Leafs, he scored just one goal and recorded three assists. In 2022-23, however, when he was with the Boston Bruins, he had scored five goals and had five assists.

If the Sabers want to end the playoff drought, signing a player like Bertuzzi could help. He played in the Atlantic Division as he was originally with the Detroit Red Wings before going to Boston and Toronto. His best season came in 2021/2022 with the Red Wings as he scored 30 goals and 32 assists.

Bertuzzi is exactly the type of player Buffalo needs. He can produce offensively and can throw the body. With the addition of Tyler and with the current core of players, this would be a step in the right direction for the Sabres.

Bertuzzi’s cap hit was $5,500,00 with Toronto last season, so Buffalo could very likely sign him to a similar contract depending on how much cap space they have.
