Police chiefs were at the centre of a storm last night for refusing to disclose the biological sex of a rapist.

Wiltshire Police chiefs announced that 35-year-old Lexi Secker was found guilty of rape in a trial at Swindon Crown Court last Friday.

A police statement said that “Secker was living as a man at the time of the crime” and that the crime was “registered as committed by a man.”

However, the statement also said that Secker was tried “as a woman” and that “one person” had been convicted of the rape. It said: “One person from Melksham has been found guilty of rape following a trial at Swindon Crown Court.”

“The court has charged Lexi Secker, 35, of Lowbourne, as a woman for the offence which she committed on 23 April 2021 following a night-time party in Blunsdon.

A statement from Wiltshire Police (headquarters pictured) said that “Secker was living as a man at the time of the offence” and the crime “was recorded as being committed by a man”.

“At the time of the crime, Secker was living as a man. The crime was registered as having been committed by a man.

“Secker was found guilty after a four-day trial on Friday and remanded in custody. Her sentence is due to be announced at Swindon Crown Court on September 27.”

Wiltshire Police last night refused to reveal Secker’s biological sex, and angry campaigners accused the force of “preying on the feelings of trans men”.

Fiona McAnena, of the charity Sex Matters, said: “This person is a man. Why are the police not saying this? Do they think they have to pretend just because he is now saying he is a woman, when he has committed the ultimate male crime of rape?”

“It is very disturbing to see the way the police are responding to the feelings of transgender men. It does not inspire confidence that they are policing without fear and without favoritism.”

Heather Binning of the Women’s Rights Network said: “This violent criminal is male.”

“He was a man when he committed the crime, when he was charged with the crime and he will be a man when he is convicted. He remains a man and should serve his sentence as a man.”

This is the latest in a series of cases in which transgender offenders are being labelled as women for crimes they committed as men.

Biological male Scarlet Blake – who was convicted of murder in February – was recorded as a woman by Thames Valley Police after identifying himself as female, sparking outrage.

And in May last year, a trans rapist was sentenced to nine years in prison at Bristol Crown Court after attacking a friend with “her penis”.

Lexi-Rose Crawford began identifying as a woman after she was released on parole from a four-year prison sentence for a child sex offense.

Crawford was referred to as “Miss” throughout the trial and was found guilty of rape and sexual assault.
