Starr County Commissioner Arrested for Assault and False Imprisonment

STARR COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A Starr County commissioner was arrested Tuesday on several charges, including assault and false imprisonment of a child, authorities said.

Starr County 1st Precinct Commissioner Jose Francisco “Kiko” Perez was arrested Tuesday at the Falcon Port of Entry on an arrest warrant issued by the Escobares Police Department, the Starr County District Attorney’s Office told ValleyCentral.

Starr County District Attorney Gocha Allen Ramirez said Perez was arrested in connection with an incident that occurred about three weeks ago.

He is accused of assault, false imprisonment, interfering with an emergency call and depriving a child of their liberty.

Escobares Police Chief Pedro Estrada said Perez was returning from Mexico and had arrived at the port of entry when he was identified and taken into custody.

Deprivation of a child’s liberty is a felony punishable by imprisonment, and the remaining three charges are Class A misdemeanors.

Estrada told ValleyCentral that Perez’s arraignment is expected Tuesday afternoon.
