Boil water alert in Bloomfield: E. coli found in a sample

“Out of an abundance of caution, the community is currently under a boil water advisory,” Bloomfield officials said Tuesday.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – Bloomfield issued a boil water advisory for area residents on Tuesday, expected to be in effect for the next 36 to 48 hours.

According to a municipal emergency notice, a boil water advisory is currently in effect in Bloomfield. The notice was issued after E. coli bacteria was found in a single sample during a routine water sampling session.

Until further notice, all water used for drinking, brushing teeth and washing dishes must be boiled for at least one minute before use. The use of bottled water is encouraged, officials said.

“We expect this warning to remain in effect for the next 36 to 48 hours,” Bloomfield officials said.
