Woman arrested after nurse attacked at Decatur Morgan Hospital

DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) – A woman was arrested and a nurse was assaulted at Decatur Morgan Hospital on Monday, according to the Decatur Police Department (DPD).

DPD said 34-year-old Kelly Marie Watkins was arrested Monday and charged with second-degree assault following an incident at Decatur Morgan Hospital on Sunday. The department said officers were dispatched to the hospital because of a report that a nurse had been assaulted by a patient.

According to authorities, officers spoke with the victim and several other witnesses upon arrival. During that investigation, the department said officers were able to identify Watkins as a patient at the hospital. DPD said officers learned that Watkins struck a nurse during her treatment, causing a visible injury to the nurse’s face.

The department said that after she was released from the hospital, Watkins was taken to the Morgan County Jail, where she was held on $2,500 bail.

In Alabama, intentionally causing physical harm to a healthcare worker while performing their duties is a Class C felony.
