Update from Culver City Police on the attempted murder incident on Slauson Avenue

Suspect arrested after stabbing in Slauson Avenue parking lot

Culver City Police responded to multiple calls about an altercation in the parking lot of the 6100 block of Slauson Avenue on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at 2:45 p.m., as we reported last week. When officers arrived, they found a female adult victim who had been stabbed multiple times. The victim was given immediate medical attention at the scene and was then taken to hospital for treatment. Fortunately, she has since been released.

The suspect, identified as Jorge Arnoldo Vasquez, a 35-year-old Hispanic male with an unknown address, was found shortly after the incident hiding in bushes in Cougar Park near the site of the attack.

According to the preliminary investigation, Vasquez approached the victim in the parking garage in front of a retail store at 6100 Slauson Avenue. He is said to have carried out a violent attack and stabbed the woman multiple times. The victim managed to disarm Vasquez and escape, prompting him to flee the scene on foot.

Vasquez initially presented a false ID to law enforcement and was subsequently arrested and taken to the Culver City Police Department Jail. He is now facing charges including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and presenting false identification to a peace officer. Bail was set at $2 million.
