Four people charged after highway chase and shootout with police in Milwaukee

Milwaukee County prosecutors on Tuesday charged four people in connection with the highway chase and police shooting last week. According to a criminal complaint, investigators recovered a stolen firearm in their stolen vehicle; that gun was allegedly stolen from a Waukesha County sheriff’s deputy. A criminal complaint includes charges against 18-year-old Semira Dean, 18-year-old Calveyon Jeans, 18-year-old Ashley Patterson and 17-year-old Tyrone Rogers. Last week, police said they arrested six people in the stolen vehicle. According to the complaint, the group was involved in two armed robberies in downtown Milwaukee Thursday morning, including a successful one near Clybourn and Milwaukee. Both the successful and attempted robberies were committed on rental cars belonging to out-of-town visitors. The stolen vehicle was later sold to a marijuana dealer for $200 and marijuana, according to the complaint. Prosecutors also cited the original theft of the firearm discovered in the vehicle after the chase, as well as the vehicle used in the chase. The indictment says the firearm – a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson semi-automatic weapon – was stolen from a Waukesha County sheriff’s deputy’s personal car outside his cousin’s Brady Street home last September. Meanwhile, prosecutors said the vehicle used in the chase was stolen by “juveniles” on June 8 from a McDonald’s near Holton & Capitol in Milwaukee. The indictment says the vehicle was spotted during one of the armed robberies Thursday morning. The chase began, according to prosecutors, when a Milwaukee police officer attempted to stop the stolen vehicle near 17th and Vliet, but it sped off after a brief stop and a chase began “several miles at a high rate of speed through light, moderate and heavy traffic.” The indictment says the chase reached I-43 at Highland Boulevard, where “the vehicle weaved through traffic, passed vehicles on the shoulder, changed lanes and sideswiped at least one vehicle.” As the chase entered a construction site with workers present, the vehicle slowed and struck a cement truck, according to prosecutors. The suspect vehicle then backed up and struck the pursuing patrol car, the indictment says. Officers in other patrol cars then ordered the occupants of the stolen car to get out, the indictment says, but the car drove forward and backed up again, where at least one officer was located. Prosecutors said that’s when one of the officers shot the driver of the stolen vehicle. The indictment says Jeans was driving the vehicle and suffered gunshot wounds to her arm and jaw. Patterson, the pregnant passenger, had gunshot wounds to her head and back, the indictment says. Her unborn baby did not survive.

The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday charged four people in connection with the highway chase and subsequent police shooting.

According to a criminal complaint, investigators found a stolen firearm in her stolen vehicle; the weapon was allegedly stolen from a Waukesha County Sheriff’s deputy.

A criminal complaint alleges charges against 18-year-old Semira Dean, 18-year-old Calveyon Jeans, 18-year-old Ashley Patterson and 17-year-old Tyrone Rogers.

Last week, police said they had arrested six people in the stolen vehicle.

The complaint states the group was involved in two armed robberies in downtown Milwaukee on Thursday morning, including a successful one near Clybourn and Milwaukee. Both the successful and attempted robberies involved rental cars belonging to out-of-town visitors. The stolen vehicle was later sold to a marijuana dealer for $200 and marijuana, the complaint states.

Prosecutors also laid out the original theft of the firearm discovered in the vehicle after the chase, as well as the vehicle used in the chase. The indictment says the weapon – a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson semi-automatic weapon – was stolen from a Waukesha County sheriff’s deputy’s personal car outside his cousin’s Brady Street home last September.

Meanwhile, prosecutors said the vehicle used in the chase was stolen by “juveniles” from a McDonald’s near Holton & Capitol in Milwaukee on June 8. The complaint said the vehicle was spotted during one of the armed robbery attempts Thursday morning.

According to prosecutors, the chase began when a Milwaukee police officer attempted to stop the stolen vehicle near the corner of 17th and Vliet Streets, but the vehicle took off after a brief stop, sparking a chase “for several miles at high speeds through light, moderate and heavy traffic.”

The lawsuit states that the chase continued onto I-43 at Highland Boulevard, where “the vehicle weaved through traffic, passed vehicles on the shoulder, changed lanes, and sideswiped at least one vehicle.”

When the chase led into a construction site with workers present, the vehicle slowed down and crashed into a cement truck, according to prosecutors. The suspect’s vehicle then reversed and crashed into the pursuing patrol car, the indictment states.

Officers in other patrol cars then ordered the occupants of the stolen car to get out, the complaint states. But the car drove on and backed up again, where at least one officer was.

The public prosecutor stated that at that moment one of the police officers shot the driver of the stolen vehicle.

The complaint stated that Jeans was driving the vehicle and suffered gunshot wounds to his arm and jaw.

Patterson, the pregnant passenger, had gunshot wounds to the head and back, the complaint states. Her unborn baby did not survive.
