Naked man attacked supermarket employee in Kansas

Renfro – Photo from an arrest earlier this month for alleged drunken driving. According to online jail records, he was arrested in July 2023 in Salina for alleged assault.

SALINE COUNTY – Law enforcement is investigating a suspect on multiple charges following an altercation at a convenience store.

Shortly before 5 a.m. Tuesday, employees at the KWIK Stop gas station at 1727 West Crawford Street in Salina reported to police that a man entered the store naked and began hitting employees with a stick in each hand, according to Salina police Capt. James Feldman.

The man attacked three employees, the first at the back door of the supermarket and the second and third inside the store.

When officers arrived at the store, employees had already subdued the perpetrator. SPD officers identified him as 42-year-old Joshua Renfro of Salina.

The first employee Renfro allegedly attacked was a 60-year-old employee who Renfro pushed past to enter the store through the back door.

“A 55-year-old employee heard a commotion in the store and when he was in the back by the refrigerators, he noticed the naked man holding two sticks in his hands,” Feldman said.

“This employee told Renfro he had to leave the store. Renfro then allegedly struck the victim in the head several times with one of the batons, and the employee suffered multiple cuts to his forehead and left eye.

Another employee, a 51-year-old woman, was trying to help her two co-workers when Renfro threw her to the ground, injuring her left elbow and thigh, Feldman said.

Emergency responders took the 51-year-old woman to Salina Regional Health Center to treat her possibly broken elbow.

“The officers eventually handcuffed the offender and took him to the hospital because they believe he was under the influence of drugs,” Feldman said. “I don’t know if he’s out yet, but he’s facing charges of aggravated assault and one count of simple assault.”

Renfro did not try to steal anything from Kwik Shop – he simply attacked the supermarket employees.

After Renfro leaves the hospital, police will consider filing additional charges in connection with the incident.
