Man from Le Mars dies in rollover accident with lawn tractor

At around 3:40 p.m. Thursday, the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash that occurred at a residence in the 15,000 block of Mesquite Avenue.

Sheriff’s officials found 67-year-old Jeffery Hanson operating a John Deere X485 lawn tractor near a fire pit on his property. The lawn tractor was being operated at the edge of the fire pit. The lawn tractor was being operated at the edge of the fire pit when it fell off the edge and rolled into the fire pit, investigators say.

The lawn tractor overturned and Hanson was trapped underneath, suffering fatal injuries.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Le Mars Fire and EMS Department, Le Mars Police Department, Plymouth County Coroner and Stockton Towing.
