Metro Atlanta school employees receive more money in their paychecks

Atlanta Public Schools

On average, teachers will receive a salary increase of 11% and non-teachers 3-5%. The district also offers incentives to teachers at schools with the greatest need, as well as early hiring stipends, officials said. A first-year APS teacher will earn $61,816 in the 2024-2025 school year.

Clayton County

Clayton plans to pay teachers $2,500 more in the next school year, costing the district about $11.6 million. Teachers can earn an additional $2,500 in bonuses throughout the year, while other staff, such as bus drivers and district school nutrition teams, will see a $4 pay increase .1%.

The school system is expected to adopt the budget later Tuesday in a specially called meeting.

Cobb County

All non-temporary staff receive an increase of 4.4% to 9%.

DeKalb County

The 2024-2025 budget provides $60 million in raises for employees. Teachers will see an average salary increase of 6.1%, depending on specific role and experience, and employees as a whole will see at least 3.6%. The district also offers retention or new hire bonuses of $2,000 to $2,500 to employees.

Fulton County

All employees will benefit from a 4.5% increase. New teachers who agree to teach in one of the district’s 12 “priority” schools will receive a $5,000 stipend. Employees who refer teachers to these schools will receive a one-time referral fee of $250.

Gwinnett County

Teachers will receive a $4,000 pay increase. Other staff will benefit from an increase of at least 4.25%. All eligible employees will also receive a step increase based on years of experience. The approved salary increases are larger than district officials first considered in April, when the preliminary budget called for a $3,000 raise for teachers and a minimum 4 percent raise for other members of the staff.
