Two dead after head-on collision south of Maywood on Saturday morning

NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska (KNOP) – The Frontier County Sheriff’s Office reports two fatalities following a two-vehicle crash south of Maywood on Highway 83.

The Frontier County Sheriff’s Office, Maywood Fire Department and Frontier County EMS arrived at the scene of the crash seven miles south of Maywood around 1 a.m. Saturday. When they arrived at the scene, the drivers of both vehicles were found dead. The identities of the two drivers have not been released.

According to Frontier County Sheriff Michael Jordan, a preliminary investigation indicates a northbound Ford Explorer crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound Mazda. The investigation is ongoing and the Nebraska State Patrol is reconstructing the accident.

The Frontier County Sheriff’s Office expressed its “deepest condolences” to the families and friends of those involved in a statement after the accident. Sheriff Jordan urged drivers to “please drive with caution.” He also thanked the other agencies that responded to this “tragic event.”
