Shooting in Brooklyn leaves one injured, second incident in the area in less than a week

On Tuesday morning, police in Brooklyn responded to the second shooting in five days.

On June 25, Brooklyn North detectives and officers from the 77th Precinct responded to a 911 call shortly after 3:10 a.m. at the intersection of Washington Avenue and St. Johns Place in Crown Heights, where they found a 61-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the right side of his abdomen. The victim had been struck by a volley of bullets near a construction site.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and took the victim to Methodist Hospital in stable condition. A New York Police Department official said the suspects, described as four men, fled the scene in a gray Nissan Maxima.

Officers recovered nearly a dozen pieces of ballistic evidence from the scene. Robert Simmons, a local resident, told the New York Metro: “It feels like things are heating up again in this area because of the shootings in the area. I’ll never understand it.”

This incident comes after a shooting on June 20 in which a 52-year-old ride-sharing app driver was critically injured when two male suspects shot him in the head Thursday night at 323 Lincoln Place, just three blocks from the June 25 shooting.

According to the NYPD’s Comp Stats 2.0, there have been five shootings on the 77th Precinct premises so far this year, compared to zero last year.
