Prepare for Houston Citizenship Clinic in July with Prescreens

Houston-area organizations are holding prescreenings this weekend to help permanent residents interested in participating in a citizenship clinic next month.

The Texas Together We Rise Citizenship Clinic, held July 21 at HCC Southeast College at 6815 Rustic St., is a free citizenship clinic and community fair to help non-citizens on their path to becoming citizens.

However, to attend the event next month, people must attend one of four pre-screenings taking place this weekend in Houston. Two of the screenings take place on Friday and two on Saturday.

Saturday’s screenings will take place at the Mexican Consulate at 3200 Rogerdale Rd. in Houston. One session will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the other from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The Texas Gulf Coast Area Federation of Labor, 2506 Sutherland, will hold a pre-screening Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. CRECEN at 6601 Hillcroft St #125 will also host a pre-screening Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Individuals attending one of the pre-selections must have the following: a permanent resident card; a driver’s license, passport or Texas ID card; social security card; and the list of employers for the last five years.

For those who are married or have been married, marriage certificates must also be brought to pre-screening. Those who have divorced must also bring their divorce decree. Criminal history records are also required for those who have one.

Potential applicants with children will also need to have their children’s names, dates of birth and alien registration numbers on hand.
