Suspect in murder of his mother and two other women shot dead by police in Florida

A suspect in a triple homicide case in Florida was shot and killed after getting involved in a shootout with police while traveling to Georgia, where police believe he planned to kill someone else.

Javontee Brice, 28, was identified by witnesses in the shooting deaths of two women Monday night, according to Bradenton police. The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office found a 48-year-old woman dead at a Motel 6 after reporting gunshots at 9:15 p.m.

According to witnesses, Brice came and shot his mother before fleeing the scene.

Less than a half hour later, officers responded to another shooting call in Palmetto. A 29-year-old woman was shot while sitting in a parked SUV and died despite life-saving efforts by police, police said.

According to officials, Brice was also identified by witnesses in this case.

And at 10 p.m., Brice was identified as the gunman who shot a woman in the face at a Bradenton home, police said. She died at a local hospital.

Authorities have issued a statewide BOLO alert for Brice’s vehicle. He was spotted in Hamilton County, which is near the Florida-Georgia state line.

Around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, Brice opened fire on Hamilton County officers, Bradenton police said. He was eventually shot and killed by officers.

Homicide detectives believe Brice was on his way to Georgia “with the intent to kill another person.”

None of the women killed were identified by police in a news release Tuesday. Aside from Brice’s mother, their relationship to Brice is unclear.
