Probation and prison sentence given to accomplice in incident in which Brookfield police officer allegedly dragged by car | Waukesha Co. News

WAUKESHA — A Milwaukee woman who arrived at the scene where a police officer was allegedly dragged by a suspect after a traffic stop to retrieve items from the man’s car was sentenced to probation with jail time Monday. Sirena Hicks, 35, pleaded guilty Monday to possession of a firearm as a felon and entered into a plea agreement with the court, dropping charges of assisting a felon. Reserve Judge Randy Koschnick ordered Hicks to serve 18 months of probation, including six months in jail with work release, transferable to Milwaukee County, according to online court records. A call to defense attorney Sarah Guenther was not immediately returned Monday. Hicks was charged after she allegedly arrived at a crime scene where a Brookfield police officer was dragged and beaten by another suspect, Bruce L. Hendon Jr., 33, on May 28. Hendon was charged with first-degree recklessly endangering safety, two counts of fleeing an officer causing bodily injury or property damage, assault or threatening a police officer, hit-and-run causing personal injury, possession of a firearm by a felon (who has been convicted of a serious crime), two counts of resisting or obstructing an officer and possession of THC. According to a criminal complaint, on May 28, a police officer attempted to stop a car owned by Hendon near Bluemound Road and Sunnyslope Drive for illegally tinting the windows. The officer stopped the vehicle in the parking lot of Brookfield Square Mall, where Hendon was seen on a video call with Hicks, according to the complaint, and he allegedly gave an officer a false name and date of birth.

During that traffic stop, two people approached Hendon Jr.’s vehicle and said he was their driver and they wanted to get in. The officer asked them to leave the scene, but they remained and he began questioning them about Hendon Jr.’s identity. After the two people left, the officer asked Hendon Jr. to exit the vehicle, the complaint states.

But Hendon began to speed away, the complaint says. An officer was dragged by the vehicle for a short time. But the officer got deeper into the vehicle and began punching Hendon while ordering him to stop, the complaint says. Hendon allegedly struck two other cars with his vehicle, causing the officer’s head and body to smash into the windshield. Hendon and the officer exited the vehicle after the crash. Hendon allegedly punched the officer in the head and then fled on foot, the complaint says. The officer met with a sergeant, who said another vehicle was circling the parking lot during the traffic stop. The officer recognized Hicks, who was on the scene, as the woman on Hendon Jr.’s Facetime, the complaint says. Hendon was later arrested after being tasered.

A victim and the passenger in his car told police they noticed three people walking up to Hendon Jr.’s vehicle and taking items, including a black bag, and placing them in a white Mercedes SUV. The officer spoke with Hicks, who said they only took keys and sunglasses. During a search of the Mercedes, officers discovered Hendon’s teaching permit and a black Nike bag containing a black handgun, the complaint states.

Surveillance footage shows Hicks opening the side door of Hendon Jr.’s vehicle, grabbing the black bag and putting it over his shoulder, the complaint says.

The case against Hendon is still pending.
