Tommy Robinson arrested after podcast tour in Canada

Tommy Robinson was filmed being arrested after visiting Canada for a podcast tour.

Officers in Calgary handcuffed the 41-year-old right-wing activist and led him into the back of a police car on suspicion of violating immigration rules.

Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley Lennon, said he was released later Monday but had to surrender his passport to Canadian authorities.

He posted on X: “Okay, I’m FREE, well, somehow, this all doesn’t make sense.

“I am now detained in Calgary and not allowed to leave the city. These conditions prevent me from continuing my tour of Canada and meeting with guests for podcasts. I am not even allowed to travel home.”

Robinson said he was asked to surrender his passport and not leave Canada.

In a video posted on his X account, he asked why he was being detained: “This is complete insanity. Get me a lawyer? Can’t you tell me why I’m being arrested?”

Robinson visited the country to speak to 150 people on a podcast for a media outlet called Rebel News, to talk about “freedom of speech,” “lawfare,” and his battles with the British police.

Further podcast appearances from him were expected on a “three-city tour” in Edmonton and Toronto.

He told reporters outside the station: “I asked them, ‘What if I just want to go home?’ and they said, ‘You can’t do that.'”
