St. Paul police find man shot in crashed car

The murder occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Monday in the Greater East Side neighborhood, police said.

ST. PAUL, Minnesota — St. Paul police are investigating a homicide after finding a man shot to death in an SUV that crashed into a tree late Monday night.

Sergeant Mike Ernster of the St. Paul Police Department said the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. at the corner of Van Dyke Street and York Avenue in the Greater East Side neighborhood.

Ernster said they were investigating several 911 calls reporting the car crash and the gunshots.

“There have been numerous callers, a lot of people have called in, which is great, we encourage that,” he said. “We’ll try to talk to all of those callers to see what they saw, if anything, or if they just heard it.”

Police expect to be on scene near Hazel Park throughout Tuesday morning.
