FB friend rapes minor girl multiple times in Shimla and threatens to spread obscene video online

Shimla:A minor girl from Shimla was allegedly raped multiple times by a youth who also filmed the act and blackmailed her and her family, police said on Tuesday. Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father, a case was registered at Nankhari police station in Rampur.

The victim told police that she had become friends with the accused on Facebook four years ago and they had exchanged cellphone numbers. She said they had been communicating on social media for a long time.

In June 2023, the accused had invited her for a meeting at Theog in Shimla and took her to a hotel where he raped her. After that, he raped her several times at a private accommodation in Nankhari and then at his house. The victim alleged that the accused forcibly took her to his house where he raped her again and also filmed the act.

After that, he started blackmailing her by threatening to make the video go viral if she didn’t give him money. Eventually, the victim got fed up with his repeated demands and stopped responding to the accused.

Shortly after, the accused sent the video to her father’s WhatsApp number and threatened to circulate it online. When the matter came to light, the victim’s father filed a police complaint against the accused.

SP Shimla Sanjeev Gandhi said the police have registered a case based on the complaint and have started investigation. The accused has not been arrested yet, he added.

The incident came to light at a time when investigations into the sexual abuse of 11 schoolgirls in Chaupal were already underway.
