Rest of this week

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across the region on Wednesday and Thursday as upper-level disturbances revolve around a high pressure dome centered just west of us. It will still be very hot, with highs in the 35s, but the increased chance of rain could be enough to keep heat index values below heat warning criteria (above 42 degrees).

Expanded outlook

The high pressure dome will settle back in over us later this week and over the weekend, potentially bringing high temperatures around 35 degrees again. It could also mean that some heat warnings will be issued again over the weekend. The chance of rain will decrease a little, but we should still see isolated showers and a few thunderstorms each day.

And the forecast indicates that it will remain hot next week. According to the current forecast, maximum temperatures will be between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius until July 4th.

Tropical Update

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a tropical wave near the Lesser Antilles this morning. The wave could develop towards the end of the week or over the weekend as it moves into the western Caribbean and/or southern Gulf of Mexico. Whether or not the wave develops, the dome of high pressure that is providing us with warmth should protect the region from any tropical threats.
