Cyclist dies after accident in Ithaca: Police launch investigation

A cyclist died Monday when he struck a tree on Hudson Street. Ithaca police responded to a report of a person on the ground around 10:52 a.m.

Officers found the cyclist, who had lost control of his electric bike and struck a tree. They administered first aid until Bangs Ambulance arrived. The cyclist was transported to Cayuga Medical Center and later to a regional trauma center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

No other people or vehicles were involved in the incident. The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of his family.
