Police launch manhunt after rape of woman on coastal path; suspect at large

Devon and Cornwall Police said the sexual assault took place near Portreath in Cornwall on Wednesday 19 June, but the offender – white, around 6ft tall and slim with dark brown hair – remains at large.

Almost a week after attacking a woman on a coastal path, a rapist is at large.

The woman was raped in Portreath, Cornwall, at around 6pm on Wednesday 19 June. The perpetrator is still at large. Detectives from Devon and Cornwall Police have launched a manhunt and are appealing for information about the serious sexual assault.



He is described as white, approximately 6′ tall and slim with dark brown hair that was approximately two inches long. He was wearing a dark colored short-sleeved T-shirt, dark jeans and dark sneakers.

Police said the woman was raped on the coastal path at North Cliffs, near Bassett Cove, at around 6pm on Wednesday 19 June. The perpetrator then fled the scene in the direction of Godrevy, which is about six miles up the coast, Cornwall Live reports this evening.

Detective Inspector Dan McKenzie, of Devon and Cornwall Police, said: “The woman is currently being cared for by specially trained officers. Our investigation into this incident is ongoing and I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen anything that could assist our investigation to come forward.”

North Cliffs is on the South West Coast Path, which is popular with tourists, walkers and joggers. The National Trust has recently upgraded this path, which runs along the north coast of Cornwall.
