Woman claims she was raped by a federal agent at the Denver Mint

DENVER – A woman filed a lawsuit on June 19 alleging she was raped by an on-duty U.S. Mint police officer at the Denver Mint in November 2022.

The federal government and Mint official Ryan Gonzalez are named as defendants in the lawsuit.

According to the lawsuit, the woman worked as a registered nurse under an independent contract at the U.S. Mint in Denver. Gonzalez allegedly used surveillance cameras to track her whereabouts at the Denver Mint.

The woman claims that Gonzalez made “multiple unwanted advances” toward her in the days leading up to the alleged rape. She claims that during these instances she physically pushed Gonzalez away and even hit him on one occasion.

During the alleged rape, Gonzalez acted under the guise of the law and wore the uniform of a federal police officer, the lawsuit says.

The woman claims that U.S. Mint leadership was aware of several instances of inappropriate behavior involving Gonzalez and a minor who was interning there. According to the lawsuit, the U.S. Mint paid the minor $100,000 in compensation and offered to pay her tuition.

The lawsuit states that Gonzalez’s behavior was “completely intolerable” and “can neither be excused nor tolerated in a civilized society.”

Denver7 reached out to the U.S. Mint for comment but did not receive a response. Our partners at The Denver Post, who first reported on the lawsuit, received a statement from U.S. Mint officials who claim Gonzalez was fired from his position last year.
