Charges filed against suspect in Times Square machete attack – NBC New York

A 36-year-old man has been charged with assault and other offenses for allegedly stabbing another man in the legs with a machete in Times Square in May, severing his arteries, prosecutors said on Monday.

Ove Williams is also accused of illegal possession of weapons in the May 30 case.

According to investigators, Williams attacked a man with a machete near the corner of West 45th Street and Seventh Avenue around 10 a.m. that day, striking him several times in the lower body and then running away through Midtown.

The 32-year-old victim was taken to a hospital where he underwent hours of surgery for deep lacerations to both legs. Prosecutors say the nerves, arteries and muscles in his left leg and shin were completely severed. The muscles and tissue of his right leg were also severed – and he lost part of his little finger. He was stabilized.

There was no immediate news on his condition on Monday.

Information about Williams’ attorney was not immediately available.
