Fort Worth Police Investigate Use of Force Incident

Carolyn Rodriguez was hospitalized due to injuries she sustained during the arrest. She was also taken into custody and faces several charges.

FORT WORTH, Texas – Fort Worth police are investigating one of their own officers after a woman was hospitalized following an arrest on Sunday.

At 3:26 a.m. on Sunday, June 23, officers responded to a hit-and-run crash near 1000 Foch St. in Fort Worth, police said.

During the investigation, Carolyn Rodriguez approached officers. In a statement, FWPD said an officer ordered Rodriguez to cross the street, and when she did not, the officer forcibly detained her.

Rodriguez suffered numerous injuries during the arrest and was taken to the hospital for treatment, police said in a statement.

She was later released from the hospital, taken to prison and charged with obstruction of public order, resisting arrest and/or false imprisonment, evading arrest and making a false alarm or false report.

Fort Worth police said they are investigating the incident and the case, including the officer’s use of force.

“We are committed to accountability and transparency in all our operations and will ensure that this investigation is thorough and impartial,” Fort Worth police said in a statement.

WFAA asked FWPD if the officer – whom it declined to name – was suspended pending the investigation, but the department declined to comment. Fort Worth police also refused to provide body camera footage from the scene.

WFAA has filed a request to release police bodycam footage and an incident report.

This is a developing story and WFAA will provide more information as it becomes available.
