Apartment fire in Federal Way claims the life of a dog, one person is hospitalized and several people are left homeless

The Red Cross is providing assistance to support the affected residents.

FEDERAL WAY, Washington – A fire at an apartment building in Federal Way left a dog dead, one person hospitalized and several residents homeless.

Crews continue to battle the fire, which was reported just before 1:40 p.m. in the 34000 block of First Circle South.

When the emergency services arrived, they found a burning apartment building with four residential units, one of which was already completely engulfed in flames.

There were reports that someone was trapped on the second floor of the unit, and crews began a search, discovering the dog, who had died of smoke inhalation. No one else was found, according to Brad Chaney of South King Fire.

The Red Cross is providing assistance to support the affected residents.

It is not known how many units are affected.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
