Riverside deputy sheriff charged with sexual abuse of volunteer

A Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputy was arrested Saturday and jailed on suspicion of sexually abusing a department volunteer, authorities said.

Alexander Vanny, 33, was arrested after the volunteer reported a sexual assault to a deputy on Friday, according to the sheriff’s office.

The deputy reported the allegation to a supervisor, which triggered an investigation, according to the department.

The department said it found evidence of a sexual assault that led to Vanny’s arrest.

“The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office condemns any form of misconduct by its personnel on or off duty and remains committed to deterring and preventing such conduct,” the department said in a press release.

Vanny has been with the Sheriff’s Department for eight years and most recently served at the Hemet Sheriff’s Station.

He was held on $1 million bail and arrested on suspicion of kidnapping for the purpose of rape, rape by force and forced oral sex. Vanny was released on Sunday, according to records.
