RTD will suspend N Line service for four hours between stations on June 29

RTD’s commuter rail line serving the northern part of the city will be closed between two sections starting at 6 a.m. on June 29 for a joint emergency drill with local authorities.

There will be no rail traffic between 48th Ave. and Brighton Boulevard Station and Commerce City’s 72and According to a press release from RTD, they were in the station for about four hours during the exercise.

Residents and businesses in the area can expect a large number of emergency vehicles near the Skyway Bridge during the exercise, the press release said.

RTD said the emergency drill is conducted annually to ensure the safety of customers and the public. The drill provides railroad operations personnel, local law enforcement and emergency responders an opportunity to review emergency protocols and demonstrate successful response procedures, RTD said.

During the exercises, trains will run on the outer sections of the N Line.

The N-Line trains run every 60 minutes between Union Station and the 48th and Brighton Boulevard Station, the RTD news release said. Customers are encouraged to use bus route 48 or an alternate service, RTD said.

North of the exercises, trains run every 30 minutes between the 72nd station in Commerce City and the Eastlake and 124th stations in Thornton.

According to RTD, rail service from Denver’s Union Station to Eastlake 124th Station will resume after the exercise.

The agency said that during the exercise, shuttle buses will support N Line service at the 48th and Brighton National Western Center Station and at Gate D of the 72nd Station in Commerce City.

Customers are encouraged to sign up for service alerts to receive specific route information. For help planning trips, visit the RTD website or the Next Ride app.

The first 13 miles of the planned 18.5-mile N Line will provide service from Union Station through Denver, Commerce City, Northglenn and Thornton. RTD says the plan is to extend service north of Thornton’s Eastlake Station, connecting to the State Highway 7/162nd Avenue Station.
