Midnight Society ends relationship with Dr Disrespect after investigation into allegations

A former Twitch employee’s allegations over the weekend regarding the reasons behind Guy “Dr. Disrespect” Beahm’s infamous ban from the service remain unconfirmed, but the game studio he co-founded has now ended its collaboration with him following its own investigation into the matter.

Midnight Society, which was involved in the development of DEADROP, an extraction shooter closely tied to the personality of Dr. Disrespect, announced the move on Twitter on Monday afternoon:

This decision was made after “discussions with those involved,” but who they might be is not mentioned. It would be a huge blow to the studio and the game itself, as Disrespect’s fans, many of whom have maintained his innocence since the allegations, have turned against them following this move. They were their main audience.

The allegations in question come from former Account Director of Strategic Partnership at Twitch, Cody Conners, and concern alleged contact with a minor through Twitch’s services:

Disrespect responded to a tweet the same day, saying “It’s a hot topic but the matter has been resolved, no wrongdoing has been admitted and they have paid out the contract,” referring to Twitch, which paid out his contract in full after he contested his termination there in 2020. He later issued another statement:

By this time, an investigation was already underway, with Robert Bowling, studio head of Midnight Society, stating on the day this was announced:

The split happened today, and last night a Verge article appeared citing a second, anonymous Twitch employee as a source who said Conners’ original claim was accurate.

Disrespect ended his stream shortly before this incident, saying he would be taking an extended break or possibly “riding off into the sunset” entirely. He talked about wanting to “get out of the spotlight” and that “there are 50 million other streamers you could be watching right now.” About an hour later, Midnight Society made the statement.

Disrespect is currently streaming on YouTube, where he moved after his ban from Twitch. It remains to be seen if he will actually stop streaming or if there will be any new developments in this situation. Beahm could not be reached for comment at the time of writing.
