German justice: Migrants as rapists have priority over victims

In a stunning and outrageous display of legal priorities, Germany has made headlines for punishing a woman who spoke out against migrant rapists more harshly than the rapists themselves. In Hamburg, a 20-year-old woman was sentenced to prison for making “hateful” comments about a migrant involved in the gang rape of a 14-year-old girl. She is just one of 140 people being investigated for making “damaging comments” about the perpetrators of this brutal crime.

Do rapists get away with it?

The gruesome incident took place in 2020 in Hamburg’s Stadtpark, a popular hangout for youngsters during the COVID-19 lockdowns. The 14-year-old victim was separated from her friends after police enforced social distancing measures, leaving her alone and defenseless. She was first attacked by a group of four men who took turns raping her and robbing her of her wallet and mobile phone. As if that wasn’t horrific enough, the girl was subsequently attacked by two more men, followed by another lone assailant, and finally by a group of three men who dragged her into some bushes for another round of sexual assault.

The attackers, who took sick pleasure in their actions, shared their exploits in chat groups and encouraged other men to join them. Despite overwhelming evidence, the German justice system failed. This includes DNA from nine of the men and witness statements to videos of the attacks. Of the 11 men initially charged, two were quickly acquitted due to a lack of DNA evidence. The remaining nine men came from a variety of backgrounds and faced lenient sentences. They include Poland, Egypt, Libya, Kuwait, Iran, Armenia, Afghanistan, Syria and Montenegro. Eight of these men were released on probation and only one received a prison sentence of two years and nine months.

The victim’s plight

The victim, who now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, bravely described her ordeal in court, but had to face the indifference of her tormentors, who showed no remorse. This case rightly sparked public outrage in Germany, not only because of the cruelty of the crime, but also because of the shockingly lenient sentences handed down to the rapists. In an illogical twist, the focus shifted to punishing those who dared to express their disgust and anger.

Justified outrage over migrant rapists

A young woman, enraged by the case, sent a WhatsApp message to one of the rapists, calling him a “dishonorable rapist pig” and a “disgusting miscarriage.” She also asked how he could look at himself in the mirror. Instead of facing up to his crimes, the rapist reported her to the police. In an astonishing act of judicial priorities, the woman was convicted and sentenced to a weekend in prison. Ironically, she will spend more time behind bars than eight of the rapists.

This young woman’s experience is not an isolated case. Hamburg authorities are investigating 140 other people for crimes related to “insults, threats or other harm” to the rapists. It seems that the justice system is more interested in protecting the feelings of the perpetrators than in providing justice for the victims.

Germany’s approach to this case sends a chilling message. Speaking out against migrant rapists is a greater crime than the rape itself. The country’s legal system seems more focused on placating migrants than bringing justice to victims. This tragic misreading of priorities not only fails victims, but also undermines public trust in the legal system. The voices of the outraged are silenced while perpetrators of heinous crimes walk free.
