State police investigate suspicious fire in the town of Leray

On June 24, 2024 at 10:11 a.m., State Police were on patrol in Watertown and observed smoke at 28060 County Route 129 in the Town of Leray. A preliminary investigation revealed that a fire had started in a shed adjacent to the Sweet Haven Holy Church of God.

No injuries were reported and the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

State police were assisted by the Black River Fire Department, Black River Emergency Services, Fort Drum Fire Department and the Town of Leray Highway.
