A shelter alert was issued for 18th and Curtis Street following reports of gunshots

Denver police have closed the 1700 block of Curtis Street in downtown Denver and are asking residents to remain in their homes while officers investigate reports of gunfire in the area.

The stay-at-home order was issued around 10 a.m. on Monday morning.

As of midday, the order is still in force.

Denver police said on X (formerly Twitter) that reports of an active shooter were inaccurate and officers were attempting to contact a suspect. No injuries were reported as of midday Monday.

“The suspect is believed to have barricaded himself in the area and officers are working to make contact with him,” the DPD said in a post.

The affected residential and commercial properties include the Quincy Apartments, the Kimpton Hotel and the Residence Inn Denver City Center.

Commuters are asked to use alternative routes around the area.
