Updated: Fatal weekend accidents in Saskatchewan

According to Saskatoon Police, a fatal crash occurred Sunday afternoon in the 900 block of Spadina Crescent East. The crash involving a motorcycle occurred around 4 p.m. at Spadina Crescent and the University Bridge underpass. Police believe the motorcycle was being driven at a high rate of speed before the driver lost control and struck a railing and traffic light. The 41-year-old driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The Saskatoon Police Collision Analysis Unit is still investigating the crash.

Highway #6 was reopened Sunday morning after a crash between a southbound truck and a northbound van. The driver of the van, a 60-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 25-year-old driver of the truck was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries. Both drivers were from the Melfort Detachment area. An accident reconstructionist is still investigating the accident. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) were called to the crash about 3 kilometres north of Melfort a few minutes before midnight Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Saskatoon Police Service Major Crimes Unit, along with the Collision Analysis Unit and Forensic Identification Unit, are investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Saturday morning in Saskatoon. At approximately 3:12 a.m., officers responded to reports of a dead man found on Warman Road near Circle Drive. Investigation revealed that a car was traveling northbound on Warman Road when it collided with a man on an electric scooter. The 25-year-old driver of the scooter succumbed to his injuries. The 38-year-old male driver of the car was arrested and faces charges of hit and run, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol content over .08 causing death.
