Investigation into shooting in West Central is now a murder case

A Springfield man has died 18 days after a shooting in the West Central neighborhood and police are classifying his death as a homicide.

Springfield police said the shooting investigation is the third homicide investigation in the city in 2024.

Darryl Douglas, 60, died June 23 at a Springfield hospital. Douglas was shot June 5 at a home on the corner of Douglas Avenue and Madison Street. Police officers arrived at the home at 6:07 a.m. and Douglas was taken to the hospital.
