Odisha teenager sentenced to ten years in prison for sexually abusing a minor girl

Baripada (Odisha), June 24 (PTI) – A court in Mayurbhanj district of the Indian state of Odisha on Monday sentenced a 17-year-old boy to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing a four-year-old girl two years ago, an official said.

Additional Sessions Judge and Presiding Judge of Mayurbhanj District Juvenile Court Satyanarayan Patra also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict, Additional Special Public Prosecutor Krushna Chandra Das said.

In case of default, he would have to go to prison for another two months, Das said.

The verdict was announced based on the testimony of the underage victim, 14 witnesses and a medical report, he said.

The convicted youth will be kept in Rourkela (juvenile home) till he attains the age of 21 and will then be shifted to Circle Jail Baripada, Das said.

The incident occurred on June 15, 2022 in Upperbeda village under the jurisdiction of Jharpokharia police station.

The teenager had taken the victim to a lonely place and sexually abused her there.

Later, based on the complaint of the victim’s father, the Jharpokharia police registered a case under various sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act.
