Springfield man wanted on multiple warrants arrested after allegedly hitting woman with gun

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts (WWLP) – A Springfield man wanted on multiple weapons charges was arrested Sunday.

According to Springfield Police, police were called to Coomes Street around 6:06 p.m. on Sunday for a suspect who had struck a woman with a handgun. Upon arrival, officers found the known suspect, a 24-year-old Jason Dunbarin a parking lot near the house. Police saw Dunbar get into a car and drive away.


Officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of ​​Hancock Street and Central Street. When the driver stopped, Dunbar exited the vehicle and allegedly ran away. Officers were able to stop Dunbar and attempted to detain him as he allegedly reached into his right pocket before officers were able to arrest him.

Officers found a loaded firearm and approximately 18 grams of crack cocaine in his pocket. According to Springfield police, Dunbar had several outstanding warrants and was arrested on the following charges:

  • Carrying a firearm without a permit
  • Carrying a loaded firearm without a permit
  • Possession of a firearm with an obscured serial number
  • Violation of the Weapons Act with 3 previous violent/drug offenses
  • Trafficking in cocaine 18-36 grams
  • Carrying a dangerous weapon despite having an arrest warrant
  • Malicious damage to a motor vehicle
  • Resisting arrest
  • Mayhem
  • Arrest Warrant – Springfield District Court
    Carrying a firearm without a permit
    Carrying a loaded firearm without a permit
    Carrying a loaded, large-capacity firearm on public roads
  • Arrest Warrant – Hampden Superior Court
    Breach of an abuse prevention order (three counts)
    Assault – breach of an abuse prevention order
    Burglary
    Stalking in violation of a restraining order
    Stalking – follow-up offense
    Possession of a Class B drug
    Threatening to commit a crime
